What is Active Directory?

AD or Active Directory is a technology from Microsoft that manages devices and other computers in a network. The primary feature of an Active Directory is that it is an OS that can run both internet-based and local servers. It allows administrators of the network to manage and create users, objects, and domains inside a network. With the increasing number of users, Active Directory organizes the users and divides them into logical subgroups and groups, thus offering control of the access at each level.

Trees, Domains, and Forests are the three main structures of an Active Directory. Active Directory offers different types of services under the same umbrella of ADDS or Active Directory Domain Services.
